Catering & Dining on charter trains

1st Class Service at your seat...dining on the charter train

Who doesn't like the thought of dining aboard a special train?

We're not talking about the convenience factor here. We've all torn open a sandwich pack and dived into a bag of something or other as we've sat in our seats, going to wherever we are going. Let's be honest, when you travel by timetabled train, nine times out of ten it's because you need to, not because you want to. So, more often than not, grabbing something to eat or drink on the train is for convenience.

This is different altogether. We're talking about taking your time over dinner, perhaps watching the sun go down as the train pushes forward. Enjoying lunch with friends over a glass of wine perhaps? Listening to the clink of cutlery and subdued conversation at breakfast as the train soaks up the rail joints. Just being with a loved one in your own little private world...

Ok, we can't guarantee that you can count the telegraph poles at the lineside or the 'clackety-clack' of the rail joints, but you have to admit, there's still an air of uniqueness about dining in the convival surroundings of a train...

Our fully equipped kitchens and buffet area can provide you with a wide range of catering options ranging from:

We can do just about anything you want - just tell us what you're after and we'll look at it for you.

Our Food

By now, you've probably discovered that we are attempting to deliver a theme through our train.  The 1970's livery, the modernistic touches and the lack of emphasis on 'wood and brass'! We're not like a Pullman set with it's emphasis on the golden age of rail travel.  They do that extremely well, so there's no point in trying to copy them. If we tried to copy that with our vehicles, it wouldn't work at all well.

We deliver food which is aligned to the whole theme of the trainset to deliver a consistent customer experience. Before you start worrying, we don't actually do it like it was in the 1970's. Who remembers BR pork pies and Travellers-Fare 'Maxpax' coffee? Happily, we've moved on a little since those days...

Our cuisine is vibrant and rich in colour and flavours. We pay as much attention to the preparation and presentation of the cuisine as we do the service we offer you.

All our dishes are freshly prepared using the finest ingredients available and where possible using local and seasonal produce.

We also carry gluten free and special diets as standard to our catering operation.

We invite you to put forward a catering suggestion and we will provide you with a competitive price proposal.

Rail-Blue Charters has appointed “The Travelling Gourmet” as its onboard catering team for all its dining requirements. The Travelling Gourmet is an independent catering company who is used to delivering catering in exceptional surroundings to clientele who demand high standards. Therefore, their mantra is to aim to provide a level of service which will match, if not exceed our customers expectations.

We want your memories to live on after travelling on one of our special trains. We'd even like you to come back and repeat the experience again if we're honest! Where possible, TG use local suppliers who share a passion for RBC's commitment for providing superb quality products. That's everything from local produce, farmhouse cheeses. locally brewed ale - we could go on!

Then the Travelling Gourmet transform all this into thoughtfully presented dishes. Presentation along with the service delivery is the key to how we make it work and being able to advertise the menus before travel is just one of TG's strengths.

The Travelling Gourmet has a background in delivering fine dining experiences at large outdoor events and occasions that complement the service delivery Rail-Blue Charters wants to create. Richard Morris and his railway chefs Tristan and Nick look forward to welcoming you aboard.
