Rail-Blue Charters' policy is to utilise electric locomotives where possible for as they are (a) powerful and quick and (b) very environmentally friendly!

To deliver the electric traction side of things, Rail-Blue Charters has teamed up with Electric Traction Limited (ETL) who specialise in electric locomotives. Their locomotives are able to operate at up to 110mph which works perfectly with the MkIII carriages.  Incidentally, these locomotives worked with MkIII vehicles for 30 years, day in day out on the West Coast Main Line between London, Manchester, Liverpool, Carlisle and Glasgow.

Please visit the ETL website at www.electric-traction.co.uk.

The use of these machines does allow us to obtain possible slots on busy electrified routes where spare slots are often at a premium.  Electric locomotives accelerate more quickly and have large amounts of power.

Electric locomotives also don't carry a large diesel power unit plus a tank of fuel around with them! Electric locomotives are light, lively and very speedworthy.

However, we do appreciate that electrics can only go where the overhead wires allow them. So, we can source any type of locomotive for any charter service depending on where you want to travel.
